Asch Pedang Menari (or “hungry dancing sword” as translated from the Gnomish), is the name of this keenly sharp short sword. You can use a bonus action to toss this magic sword into the air and speak its'  Gnomish name. When you do so,  and as part of the same bonus action, the sword begins to hover and can fight a creature you are currently engaged fighting, or fly up to 30 feet away to attack another target of your choice within 5 feet of it. The sword uses your attack roll and ability score modifier to damage rolls.
You are then able to perform other actions, retreat safely from battle, or even fight with another weapon  in hand. The defeat of its opponent signals the end of its dancing time, the sword returns to your hand. If you have no hand free, it falls to the ground at your feet. If the sword has no unobstructed path to you, it moves as close to you as it can and then falls to the ground. It also ceases to hover if you grasp it or move more than 30 feet away from it.

The reason this sword is "hungry" is that it must draw blood if unsheathed before it can be returned to its scabbard. If a battle is finished with out the drawn sword having tasted blood, it will attack its owner and automatically hit, doing maximum damage.

The sword is able to do it's dancing attack once per day. However, if you draw the blade and sacrifice a bit of your own blood, such as nicking your thumb ala the attunement ritual, you can make the sword dance again within a single day. You can do this up to two times before waiting a day before the sword will dance again.

Proficiency with a Shortsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
