A weapon with dwarven runes etched into the blade. Whenever a spell targeting the wielder fails (either because the wielder made a check or the spell rolled below their AC) the wielder can use a reaction to absorb the spell. The weapon then has the spell stored in the weapon. The next successful attack with the weapon releases the spell, doing both weapon damage and the damage/effect of the spell. You can dismiss the spell stored in the weapon as a bonus action, and the spell can only be stored in the weapon for 24 hours before it fizzles out.
If the user attempts to absorb a spell when there is still a spell inside the weapon then the sword is overloaded, and the wielder is hit with both spells simultaneously.
This weapon only works on spells that directly target the wielder (firebolt, bane, command, etc). It will have no effect on area of effect spells such as fireball or hypnotic pattern. Bane and spells like it will work because while it hits multiple targets, they are specifically chosen. Note that if the weapon does absorb bane, the wielder can only affect the target of the attack.
A caster can target the weapon directly, provided it meets the criteria above. The caster must be somewhat familiar with the weapon, and if the wielder does not want to absorb the spell (perhaps because it already has a spell in there or the caster is trying to use cure wounds on the weapon) they must make an arcana check dc 15 or else the spell targets the wielder instead.
For damage calculations use the modifiers of the original caster. If the weapon attack was a critical role, the spell is as well.
If the spell requires concentration to maintain, it uses the wielder's concentration. If the target can make dc checks of any sort to escape it, the modifier is based on the original spell caster.
Some spells absorbed might have their effects slightly altered by the weapon or be less effective than normal, at the GM's description. For instance, charm person might not work as well when you are physically striking the target with a sword, or heat metal might be able to activate on a miss as the sword strikes the enemy's shield or breastplate.
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
Notes: Damage, Combat, Heavy, Two-Handed, Graze
