Potion, legendary

When you drink this potion, you gain a flying speed equal to your base movement speed permanently and can hover.

You gain the ability to do so, due to very awkwardly bulky wings that sprout painfully out of your back.

When they do so, make a CON save (CON modifier + roll) If you fail, you fall unconscious for (your character level/2, minimum of 2) days as your body adjusts to the two new limbs. This flight is thus considered natural.

These wings can only be removed by a wish spell or greater restoration spell cast at 9th level.

They can be subdued by an Alter Self or Polymorph spell cast by a Wizard or Sorceror, however halfway through their duration, the wings will reappear and the check in the previous paragraph will need to be repeated. If the check is failed under these conditions, while in combat, you fall unconscious for an number of rounds equal to your character level.

This potion also bstows a Stealth penalty of 2 until the wings are removed because the wings are big and bulky, making them, and by extension you, slightly harder to hide.

This potion's clear liquid floats at the top of its container and has cloudy white impurities drifting in it and is virtually indistinguishable from a potion of flying.

A perception check (DC 30) will reveal a small section of the cloudy substance is darker than normal.

Identify will yield the result of this being a potion of flying, but also that there is something wrong with it. A subsequent Arcana check (DC 25) while Identify is active will reveal the true nature of this potion.

A history check (DC 10) made after the wings have grown, if a failed Arcana check during identify has occured will reveal that this potion was first made by a half-hobgoblin half-troll Shaman who attempted to improve his clan by causing physical modifications to their bodies. The creation of it was it was deemed illegal by (insert GM's choice of ruling body here.)

Regardless of whether or not it is illegal, (GM's discretion,) the above history check reveals that it is now only made and sold by alchemists wanting to rip off or torment their customers. This plot device is useful if your players have really ticked off an alchemist who also runs a shop.
