An ananas, upon any nonmagical investigation, appears to be a normal pineapple, though it is heavier than average for a pineapple and appears at peak ripeness. A detect magic spell cast reveals an aura of transmutation magic around the item, but reveals no more information about it. An identify spell cast on the item reveals that the ananas is cursed, but does not reveal the nature of the curse.
As an action, a creature can partially or completely eat an ananas. However, if the ananas is not peeled prior to consumption, the creature consuming it must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 1d4 piercing damage, as the spiky exterior damages their throat. On a failed save, the creature must also make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or regurgitate whatever fraction of the ananas they attempted to consume; this fraction is regurgitated undamaged and does not appear to have been bitten or chewed. A creature can also use an action to force an unwilling creature to eat any fraction of an ananas by making a Strength (Athletics) check contested by the unwilling creature's Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check. The unwilling creature has advantage on the ability check.
Any creature that successfully consumes an ananas must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a successful save, it regains 1d6 hit points if they consumed a fraction of the ananas, or 1d8 hit points if it consumed it in full. On a failed save, its head (if it has one) instantly transforms into a new ananas, attached at the neck to the creature's body, killing the creature instantly. If a creature has multiple heads, it survives but instead takes 8d6 necrotic damage, losing one of its heads in the process. If it had two heads (such as an ettin), it loses the benefit of its Two Heads or Multiple Heads trait. A successful DC 5 Strength check detaches the ananas from the dead creature's body.
