An ancient greatsword embedded in the hands of a statue found within ruins inside a cave. A crimson gem is within the cross-guard and emits a malevolent aura around it. The gem glows when someone gets close to the sword, and feelings of burning rage and bloodlust start to manifest bit by bit. The feelings become bigger, turning into urges the closer the person gets, as the gem slowly infects their mind as it slowly starts to warp their brain to send them on a rage filled rampage. Only when the sword is attuned to someone will the bloodlust subside completely.
Once the sword is picked up, the urges for bloodlust and destruction are at their highest. The player must make a Wisdom Saving Throw (DC 13) to resist the urges to kill. On a successful throw, the urges begin to fade and the gem's glow dims. Attunement becomes possible (1 hour), instant attunement on a NAT 20. On a failed throw, the urges overcome the player and they attack the nearest person by them. An encounter takes place, and the victim must make a Wisdom Saving Throw (DC 15) each turn they are under the effects of the sword. On a fail, attack the nearest player. On success, the player drops the sword and return to their senses, ending the encounter. The sword is still unattuned to the person who dropped it, and must reattempt the saving throw if they choose to pick it up again. The encounter also ends when the player is at low health / is incapacitated by the party.
When attack, the sword deals 2d6 slashing damage + 1d4 fire damage. On a NAT 20, the gem glows and one of its 3 charges is expended up to ignite the sword in flames, adding another 5 points of fire damage. The sword stays ignited until the user disperses the flames, but expends a charge for every attack made. The sword automatically disperses the flames when there are no more charges.
The sword can also expend a charge to ignite without landing a NAT 20, but at the cost of removing the 1d4 fire damage. Charges reset after a long rest.
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
Notes: Slashing, Fire Damage, Roll Wisdom Saving Throw (DC 13) on pickup. Attunement possible on success (1 hour), instant on NAT 20., Damage, Heavy, Two-Handed, Graze
