A small orb of Zelethani make, with the appearance of a winding golden band encasing a light blue crystal sphere. Small elements of clockwork gearing bind the metal bands together around the outside.
As an action, the arcane barometer can be thrown into the air where the brightness of the crystal and the position of the bands can be used to determine the strength of the weave in the current area, for use in determining likelihood of arcane spell failure.
Possible results are: Exceptional; Strong; Middling; Weak. In an area with no weave activity, the arcane barometer fails to activate.
Calculating Arcane Spell Failure DC
When casting an arcane spell of level 3 or above, an arcane spell failure check must first be rolled. The DC is determined by the following: DC = Spell level + Weave strength modifier, where the Weave strength modifier is as follows:
Exceptional: +0
Strong: +5
Middling: +10
Weak: +15
No Weave: +20
