This crossbow has an auto-reload feature. It reloads when the previous bolt is expelled. No action is required for reload. The ammunition also acquires additional properties when fired, depending on the currently equipped Artificer Gem. The gem is placed in a slot underneath the arrow flight, at the end of the barrel.
This heavy crossbow appears to be made of bright red wood inlayed with dark, black rock. The limbs are comprised of bright metal, with a metal string connecting them. There is a slot on the bottom of the body, where the cartridge holding twelve bolts would be inserted. There is an artist's signature located on the underside of the stock.
Proficiency with a Heavy Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
