Armor (chain mail), very rare
This armor has resistance to one type of damage at a time, selected by the wearer, which can only be declared outside of combat (before initiative is rolled). That resistance lasts as long as it isn't changed, and can be changed at any point outside of combat. If the resistance type is changed, any previous resistances cannot be used again until after a long rest.
Made of interlocking metal rings, chain mail includes a layer of quilted fabric worn underneath the mail to prevent chafing and to cushion the impact of blows. The suit includes gauntlets.
