An Awakening Blade is an enchanted sword that is linked to an entity in the Shadowfell, usually the Hexblade. The link gives the Awakening Blade a limited intelligence that becomes more fully realized as it is used in combat, absorbing life energy from those it participates in killing. The nature of the Blade's intelligence causes it to be very selective of who can attune to it and fully awaken its full potential.
The Awakening Blade deals an additional 1d6 damage. The blade gains additional features as certain Awakening Events are completed.
Damage with the Awakening Blade: 75 = +1 Weapon, 250 = +2 Weapon
Attacks Avoided While Wielding the Awakening Blade: 25 = +1 AC, 75 = +2 AC
On first Awakening Event: The gem on the hilt reveals itself as an eye and opens.
On second Awakening Event: The Blade will occasionally whisper ominously.
Full Awakening: The Blade becomes fully Awakened after the third Awakening Event and it has participated in at least 50 kills. Once fully awake, the blade gains 1 Blood Charge per kill it participates in and can store a maximum of 20 charges. The user can expend 10 charges to connect the Blade to the Shadowfell and gain the benefits of inspiration which is drawn from the Hexblade or whatever entity the blade was linked to when it was created.
