Weapon (war pick), uncommon

The mattock of maintenance is not actually a weapon despite its +2 rating, rather it is a utility tool created by Dwarven artisans to keep their tunnels and mining rails clear and functioning properly. For each 10-minute turn spent working on a maintenance activity (unless otherwise described) and while singing a common Dwarvish work song, the user can invoke one of its magical functions:

  • Loosen or tumble earth or earthen ramparts (a 10-foot cube every 10 minutes).
  • Smash dense rock (a 10-foot cube per hour).
  • Cast the cantrip Mending to repair common Dwarvish mining infrastructure, such as the iron rails or split logs used for mining train tracks, repairing simple gears, pullies, block & tackle, or lever systems. Since the cantrip component of this activity is instant, the other 10-minutes of this action results in the 10' of space around the work activity to be neatly tidied and swept clear of debris.
  • Cast the cantrip Mold Earth to repair tunnels that have collapsed or need shoring up. Since the cantrip component of this activity is instant, the other 10-minutes of this action results in the 10' of space of the work activity to be neatly tidied and swept clear of debris.

You must suspend work with the mattock of maintenance for two hours to switch between its earth moving functions (the first two bullet points) to either cantrip function back again.

The wielder of a mattock of maintenance also has advantage when attacking creatures of the elemental plane of earth and when casting transmutation spells.

Proficiency with a War Pick allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
