This item resembles a normal cast iron lantern with an iron cage frame, cap, base, and bail. However, in place of the wick and canister there is a severed deathlock head. Its eyes are sewn open, and unholy blue light resonates from them. When a magical ranged attack would hit the wielder of the Arclock Lantern, the deathlock's mouth opens and consumes the energy. Depending upon the strength of the attack, the lantern's head will either melt from the powerful magical energies, or allow the wielder to reflect the magic back at their attacker.
As a reaction, the owner of the Arclock Lantern can absorb one magical ranged attack. If the owner chooses to do so, the attacker rolls the damage it would have dealt, and if it exceeds 30 hit points the deathlock head at the center of the lantern melts. However if it doesn't, the absorbed magical energy can then be redirected at another valid target. Alternatively, the owner may choose to hold the absorbed energy inside the lantern, and unleash the attack as a bonus action at another point in time. Keep in mind that the lantern may only hold one magical ranged attack at a time.
Additionally, the light from the deathlock's eyes illuminates 10 feet of magical and non-magical darkness.
Notes: If a spell attack has multiple projectiles, the lantern may only absorb one of them. For instance, magic missile shoots a minimum of three magical darts. The arclock lantern can only absorb 1 of those 3.
