Artifacts in 5e DnD: These dormant artifacts will grow in power with the player and are very powerful items! General advancement is to awaken an artifact by some feat of strength or backstory tie in between level 10-15 and exalt between levels 16-20. Inspired by the Exandria Campaign setting written by Matthew Mercer.

A white bladed sword with a chain dangling from the pommel in the shape of a wolf's head. Made of a white colored and unknown material, and is said to have been forged in the Astral Sea, it was gifted to the children of the Arbiter, be it Lupox or those he has forged a pact with.. It is of a rather gothic design, able to be used in one hand. Despite this, the object maintains a heavy weight. Those who hold tight to this feel a rush of will surging through them

While wielding the Arbiter's Resolve, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls made with this magic weapon.
  • When you score a critical hit with this weapon, the target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be knocked prone by unseen forces.
  • As a bonus action, you can create a phantasmal spectre of canine jaws at a point you can see within 15 feet.  As it's own unique entity, it shares the same initiative of the sword's wilder, with hit points determined by the character's Constitution modifier at a minimum of one. When struck, it immediately disappears. The jaws will snap at the target of the individual holding the sword, dealing an additional 1d4 piercing damage. These spectral jaws last for two minutes, or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. Once you have used this feature, you can't do so again until the following the next in-game day.

Awakened

When the Arbiter's Resolve awakens, apply the following changes to its properties:

  • The bonus to attack rolls increases to +3 and the spectral jaws deal an additional 1d6 piercing damage on the follow up hit on the target.
  • The saving throw DC to resist being knocked prone on a critical hit increases to 16.
  • You and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you have advantage on saving throws that restrict movement, as long as you hold this drawn sword.
  • When you use your bonus action to create the Spectral Fangs, or in the midst of combat, the jaws are able to switch to an alternative property(acid, cold, poison, thunder) determined by the user. This can only be done up to three times, the charges refreshed every day at dawn.
  • Additionally, the hit point value of the Spectral Fang is increased to double the original modifier, with the minimum remaining at one.

Exalted

When the Arbiter's Resolve exalts, apply the following changes to its properties:

  • The bonus to attack rolls increases to +4, and becomes able to critically hit on a 19. Additionally, the Spectral Jaw's damage increases to 1d8.
  • The saving throw DC to resist blindness on a critical hit increases to 17.
  • When you use your bonus action to create the Spectral Jaws, you are able to summon up to three sets to follow up the attacks on your target. Furthermore, you can individually set all the individual properties of each set of Jaws. For example, one set of Jaws can be Piercing, whilst two others are elemental in nature, or any combination thereof. The hit point value is quadruple the wielder's Constitution Modifier. The minimum remains at one.
  • At this stage, your soul resonates so deeply with the sword that wolves of any sort will become neutral or friendly to you, depending on their original affinities. To the wielder attuned to the Arbiter's Resolve, they are able to hold a conversation with these creatures as if it were in Common. No others can hear this conversation unless Speak with Animals is cast.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.

Notes: Weapon (Longsword), legendary (requires attunement by a fighter/warlock), Versatile, Sap
