A smooth glass globe 3 inches in diameter that when observed, grows to about 6 inches in diameter. Mist swirls inside it, and something watches from the other side.
Attunement
Each day, make a DC 13 Charisma check against the orb, as you try to resist looking too deeply into the depths. Success earns you the Eye's cooperation. Failure displaces your sense of self, effected as by suggestion.
Personality and Properties
An Aberrant Eye is typically a Lore Seeker or a Creator Seeker, and has the following properties:
- While the Eye has an unobstructed view, it grants you a +1 AC bonus.
- While attached to the artifact, you deal 1d6 necrotic damage to any plant you touch that isn’t a creature.
Spells and Abilities
The Eye has 4 charges, and recharges 1d4 charges every long rest. The Eye may cast its suggestion on hostile creatures, luring them closer for 1 charge. The Eye can also cast scrying for 4 charges, and It can freely cast silent image to display anything it has seen.
You can freely cast [homebrew spell]Nothic's Rotting Gaze[/homebrew spell] while controlling the orb.
If you control the orb, you can use an action to have the artifact issue a telepathic call extending in all directions for 5 miles. Any aberrant creature in range feels compelled to telepathically or physically respond. Entities responding to the orb might be hostile toward you for calling them. After using this property, it can't be used again for 1 hour.
Becoming a Watcher
The orb will occasionally attempt to steal your body, requiring 2d6 rounds of the your inaction to take root. This process deals 1 necrotic damage every round, and any DC11 Strength check can end the attempt. The Eye's goal is the forehead, and direct access speeds it's takeover to 2 rounds. Once installed, your former body undergoes a metamorphosis over the next day, fully becoming a nothic until the eye is removed or a remove curse is cast to reinstate your control daily. Your body remains altered unless an effect of Greater Restoration is used on you. While you are controlled, the Nothic doesn't benefit from your class levels. The Nothic may not be hostile toward your allies, and pursues any interests it has as quickly as possible.
Destroying an Orb
An Aberrant Eye appears fragile but is impervious to most damage, however a disintegrate spell or bludgeoning damage from a +2 magic weapon is sufficient to destroy it.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Sense: Truesight, Summoning, Control, Scrying, Detection
