The strongest of these great totems are created by legendary mages and wizards who have unlocked the power of the creature magic. To create an Animus Totem, you require 5 ingredients.
1. The magical focus. This focus is usually a scale of other piece of a creature. This focus will charge the totem with the magical essence and powers the summoned creature will possess. This magical focus provides the basis of the creature's power, not the extent.
2. Coiling Essence: This essence is wrapped around the magical focus. This essence enhances, inhibits, or warps the power of the focus. Each coil has different properties but rarer metals or materials tend to increase the power of the focus, with metals like platinum offering immunities to certain attacks, i.e. acid damage.
3. Casing Resin: The resin provides the nature of the creature. The resin will determine how violent, wise, protective or many other such attributes the creature will possess.
4. Casting: The casting of the totem provides the creature its attributing extent. The rarer or more powerful the casting of the totem, the larger amount of materials it can attach to itself and the nature of this attachment.
5. Sacrifice. To sacrifice determines the power (CR) of the creature. The totem requires a sacrifice to be made in order for its completion. Sacrifices can be as small as a single copper coin to as meaningful and powerful as a blood sacrifice of a relative.
When the 5 ingredients of this totem are combined, the maker can shape this totem into any form they want. When this totem is completed, it can form a creature using a material or materials it is in contact with in a certain range and into a certain size as dictated by the casting of the totem. When the totem forms a creature with materials, the effect lasts until 1 of the following: the creator/controller of the totem ends the effect, the Animus Totem in the centre of the creature is destroyed, or the creature is reduced to 0 hit points. If the creature is reduced to 0 hit points, the totem remains intact but loses its casting. To activate the effect of the totem again, the user must cast the totem, this casting does not have to be the same material as its original casting.
