Being made  from the chitinous exoskeleton of the Ankheg is what gives this armor its green tint. The armor is very nearly as effective as full plate armor but weighs considerably less and could be worn by warriors who usually couldn't wear such heavy armor. Monsters come and go but fatigue from moving around in heavy armor is a constant enemy, as any world-weary adventurer will tell you.

Ankheg chitin is a light, flexible material but as strong as metal. If the armor normally imposes disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the Ankhed shell version of the armor doesn't.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
