Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a The attuned player must be missing an entire arm, and player must be a wizard, sorcerer, or warlock)

When the Gnome Wizard Eldon was struck down in battle, both of his limbs were severed from his body, preventing him from casting any more magic. The day was lost, and Eldon laid there for two days, surrounded by his fellow men in the ruins of what once was Fort Gaurndall. On the third day, his brother Fonkin found him in amongst the dead warriors he failed to protect. Fonkin took Eldon, his arms, and what remained of his shattered arcane focus to his workshop, where he began to work. As Eldon was nursed back to health by other family members, Fonkin was hard at work, studying Eldon's spellbook, testing material components, and forging away, until he approached his brother with the most wondrous achievement he had ever whipped up tinkering in that lab. A prosthetic limb was laid out in front of Eldon. The limb was forged out of silver, and covered in arcane runes. At the elbow, there was rather an odd pivot, which allowed the arms to be fully rotational. At the hand, it was oddly designed with 2 thumbs, and 4 fingers, and an odd gemstone that, upon closer inspection, was an arcane focus made of the shards of his old sapphire focus, and a newer Garnet gemstone cut so the old focus fit inside. Eldon was grateful for both a replacement arm and repaired arcane focus, but he lost both his arms in the battle. Fonkin smirks, then pulls a cart in with a pile of identical arms, excluding the arcane focus, which each had a differently colored gemstone. Eldon, now equipped with newfound powers, returned to the fight to avenge his fallen comrades.

The Arm of the War Mage is a prosthetic limb designed for spellcasters who are missing limbs. If attuned and equipped, the Arm gives the following properties.

  • The Arm of the War Magecontains an arcane focus in the palm, which can be used for casting spells.
  • You know the spell Arcane Hand, and can cast it without concentration. The Arcane Hand will have 4 fingers and 2 thumbs, and it can be cast without using a spell slot this way once per day. You may use a spell slot of 5th or higher level to cast it a second time in a day in this way.

The Arm of the War Mage was designed to be interchangeable with other arms. Because of this, all arms are designed to be either a left or right arm. You can bend all joints of the arm any way you choose.

The Arm of the War Mage is an entire arm, so if your player wants to use this item, they must be missing their entire arm. If they did not lose their arm at the shoulder, they will have to either not use the Arm of the War Mage, or change their situation so they are missing their arm at the shoulder.

Notes: The attuned player must be missing an entire arm, and player must be a wizard, sorcerer, or warlock
