This is every artificers dream a single weapon for every occasion. Compact and versatile it appears to be a strange sword hilt consisting of a grip and a guard of two rings that spin freely and have runes across them.
Switch Blade: while attuned to the sword hilt you can as a bonus action match the runes on the hilt causing the blade to morph into one of 6 forms. the weapon then functions as the base weapon that it becomes. It is magical and attacks with this weapon have advantage against constructs.
- Great sword; 2d6 slashing; Heavy, two-handed
- longsword; 1d8 slashing; Versatile (1d10)
- Short sword; 1d6 piercing; Finesse, light
- Lance; 1d12 piercing; Reach, special
- Spear; 1d6 piercing; Thrown (range 20/60), versatile (1d8)
- Whip; 1d4 slashing; Finesse, reach
Room for Improvement: while attuned to this weapon an artificer is able to improve the make of each of the weapons forms. By spending 12 hours and a number of gp or material components equivalent to half of the cost of an individual form the artificer can improve that forms modifier modifier by +1 to a maximum of +3 per weapon.
Adapted Aspect: While attuned to this blade you can use a bonus action to expend a spell slot to add 1d6 of cold, fire, force, lightning, or poison damage per level of the spell slot expended. This can be done in tandem with the switch blade expending only one bonus action to do both. Only one damage type can be in effect at one time and switching requires the expenditure of spell slots. This effect lasts for 8 hours and can be dispelled at any time. switching the blade formation doesn't cause the blade to lose this effect.
While this is in effect is active the weapon also acts as a spellcasting focus
Notes: Artificer's Adaptable Blade - true - by an artificer
