Wondrous Item, very rare

In the ages past, the Dragonborn empire of Arkhosia accomplished many amazing feats of engineering that rival that of modern-day dwarves and rock gnomes.  One of their crowning achievements in this area was the war cannon.  Fueled by magic, the war cannon was a versatile artillery weapon that was effective both as a siege weapon and an anti-infantry weapon.

Each cannon was created with one or more crystals that were used to power the cannon, with the crystals being capable of storing three different levels of power.  Any spellcaster may spend an hour with a crystal to transfer some of his spellcasting ability into the crystal.  The spellcaster may choose to temporarily loose one of his spell slots (1st - 6th level) in order to charge the crystal as follows:

1st or 2nd level spell slot:  low charge

3rd or 4th level spell slot:  medium charge

5th or 6th level spell slot:  maximum charge

The spellcaster cannot regain the spell slot used to charge the crystal until the crystal is discharged.  A spellcaster may charge more than one crystal provided he has the necessary spell slots available.

In order to fire the cannon, a charged crystal must be loaded into the cannon.  A single shot from the cannon depletes the magical energy stored in the crystal and the crystal is discharged.  A discharged crystal may be recharged by the method described above.

The cannon has three firing modes:  siege, anti-infantry, and single target.  The power of these shots depends on the level of charge in the crystal used to fire the cannon:

Siege:  as the shatter spell, except the spell is a 15ft wide x 15ft high "line" that is 100 ft. long emanating from the mouth of the cannon.  A low charge does 3d8 thunder damage, a medium charge does 5d8, and a maximum charge does 8d8.

Anti-infantry:  as the fireball spell, except the range is 200 ft and a low charge does 4d6 fire damage, a medium charge does 8d6, and a maximum charge does 12d6.

Single target:  as the disintegrate spell, except the range is 300 ft and a low charge does 3d6 +10 force damage, a medium charge does 6d6 +20, and a maximum charge does 10d6 +40.
