Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement)

This matte black metallic rod shines with an intricate runic design, its meaning long lost, spiraling around its full length. The runes have a perpetual soft ember glow giving off dim light in a 5-foot radius. A carnelian is set at one end, cut to resemble a glowing eye. The rod has the following abilities:

The Abyss Reclaims - The wielder of Dread can as an action use the rod as a two-handed weapon and bash the carnelian into the ground before them, creating a 20-foot radius of burning hell. All creatures within the radius has to make a DC15 Dexterity saving throw or suffer 3d6 fire damage. If succeeding, the creature takes half damage. This ability can be used once per short or long rest.

Hubris - The wielder of Dread can as a reaction try to absorb a spell targeting them by making a DC15 Wisdom ability check. The spell can either be targeting them directly or as an area effect. If they succeed, the spell is absorbed entirely, causing no damage. The spell absorbed can be released as an action by the wielder on a subsequent turn without using a spell slot. The spell must be of a level the wielder can cast, and it cannot be higher than 5th level. The spell cannot be stored in Dread longer than 1d10 minutes. If the spell is not used within this time frame the wielder take 1d10 psychic damage per spell level and the spell dissipates. This ability can be used once per long rest.
