Weapon (dagger), legendary

Long before civilized societies had established rule over Vethriel, individual tribes of wildfolk had inhabited the continent. The Durthan, who had operated in the Amber Vale, were a nomadic, matriarchal tribe that had relied on the prospects of hunting and gathering to survive. That standard stood tall for countless centuries until Camila Keyperios emerged as Matron of the Durthan and introduced the use of blood magic within the clan. Many of the lesser Matrons who served Camila all turned to blood magic, as well, evolving into witches within moments.

As the use of blood magic became more widespread within the ranks of the Durthan, the need to sate the many members of the clan became much more imperative. Blood was a resource that was quickly becoming hard to come by, so Camila took it upon herself to start performing sacrifices on Durthan land, right in the Amber Vale. Over time, the simple tribe of hunters and gatherers became of cult of warlocks, druids, and dark mages under Camila. Countless sacrifices were made under her rule with this very blade. Hundreds of unfortunate local rangers, trappers, even Durthanian civilians were sacrificed to sate the witches’ endless thirst. Those that weren’t sacrificed heard the screams of their comrades echo through the trees.

Eventually, the arrival of governments and societies in Vethriel forced the Durthan to flee the continent and relocate elsewhere. Today, few women across Kynerith still hail to the ways of the old tribe, as Durthanian forces - particularly in the way of its witches - are spread thin. Furthermore, the legendary sacrificial blade of Camila Keyperios is still lost to time - most likely for the best. Legends say it was returned to an infantile state of weakened power upon Camila’s death, prompting Durthanian loyalists to hide it away forever. However, she who finds the dagger known as Arienél shall be known as Matron of the Durthan, forever leaving a trail of blood in her wake.
