Wondrous Item, common

The burnished bronze rectangular piece is no large than a playing card and about a quarter inch thick. On it is the indented design of a pair of calipers that meet at the bottom around two intersecting bones at the bottom of the piece. In the center of the design are the ornate gothic letters with distinct Southern Kingdom's flourish "TB". This is known to be a signifier that the wielder is a member of the Institute of Archeological Studies in Tren-Ban, whether student or active archeologist.

The bronze plate has a hole at the top with a loop of leather, it can easily be fashioned onto a belt loop or tied to a backpack.

The item when slammed against inorganic material gives you a quick geographic outline of the material. It isn't necessarily perfect, but this allows for the user to see crevices within rock, walled areas and crevices, and anything else that can cause the plate to ring when struct. The ability can only be used twice within a 24 hour period before it needs to recharge. The item recharges either by throwing it into a fire and letting it roast for 4 hours or leaving it out in the sun for a full day.
