When one-handing, damage is 1d6, however a parry and riposte can be done as a counteraction using a sleight of hand check against the opponents AC. Damage on a successful parry is a second 1d6 roll.
When two-handing, damage is 1d12, however a block can be done as a counteraction with a strength check against opponents D/C roll. On success, the enemy is staggered and the next attack directed at the staggered creature is guaranteed to hit, and the attacker rolls advantage for damage.
