An Arcane Recaster can come in many different forms, from a whirring abacus of gears and wheels, to a ancient calendar wheel, to a crystalline polyhedron. In any form, the Arcane Recaster is an object that is covered in runes that can, in some way, shift across its surface to orient into cohesive scripts of arcane text, creating the formula for any spell, and possesses a repository for material spellcasting components. Its function is, when supplied with sufficient spellcasting components, to receive the casting of a spell and automatically cast the spell upon a specified target upon the instructed triggering condition.
When attuned to this object, a spellcaster can spend one minute inputting directions, material components and orienting the Arcane Recaster. In doing so, they cast a spell that they are capable of casting upon the device as they normally would, though the spell takes no effect until the end of this minute. As apart of this instruction to the Arcane Recaster, the caster can specify any details they would normally decide during the casting as the spell, including the center of the spell's area, the target of the spell, and what specific effects they want to invoke upon the target or as are naturally apart of the spell's casting.
The caster cannot specify more detail or information than is readily available to the Arcane Recaster upon the time of this instruction (ie. The caster could instruct it to target whoever stood nearest to the door of the room they were in, or whoever was nearest to a particular object in the room, but not a target based off of their appearance, name or alignment if none of the same kind were initially present) Thereafter, the Arcane Recaster will immediately cast the spell, following which it will Recast the spell in the instructed manner at the trigger or condition instructed by the caster (ie. 'When the duration of the spell expires', or 'when someone enters the room', or 'every two hours', or 'when the chest is opened') The detection of the Arcane Recaster is dependent on the range of the spell, so that a spell with the range of touch can only be triggered upon the Arcane Recaster being touched, and a spell with a range of 30 ft can only be triggered by something within 30 ft of the Arcane Recaster. If the inputting triggering conditions can not be met (ie. The Arcane Recaster is specified to target a particular door and is removed from the range of that door), the spell fails, expending a use of material components and doing nothing.
Any attempt to deceive the senses of the Arcane Recaster, either to trigger it under falsified conditions (such as with a minor illusion spell) or to not trigger the Arcane Recaster under the appropriate conditions (such as the Invisibility spell) must surpass an Arcana skill check against the Spell Save DC of the caster that Arcane Recaster is attuned to. This check is made once per triggering condition. Arming it to activate early, disarming it to forgo a single Recasting, disabling it to cease Recasting until instructed again, or manipulating any of its the details of its input can be done over the course of a minute in the same way, unless the Arcane Caster is attuned to the creature attempting this, in which case any of these actions can be completed over the course of one action.
The Arcane Recaster requires the material spellcasting components of the spell inputted into it to be placed within its repository during the course of its one minute of instruction. It can store enough material components needed for the Recasting of a spell a number of times equal to 10 minus the level the spell was cast at. (ie. A 1st level Witchbolt spell could be Recast up to 9 times, while a 9th level Witchbolt spell could only be Recast 1 time) This is represented not by the capacity of the Arcane Recaster's repository, but rather the energy required to expend higher level uses of the spell. The number of Recastings must be supplied by an equal number of Material Components (ie. a material component of 25gp worth of powdered silver to Recast a spell four times requires 100gp worth of powerded silver, or an eyelash encased in gum arabic to Recast a spell six times would require six eyelashes all encased in gum arabic.) If the spell has no material components, it cannot be Recast by the Arcane Recaster. Upon a Recasting, the Arcane Recast destroys an amount of the material component within it proportional to the level of the spell. Placing a Spellcasting focus into the Arcane Recaster will not work to make it function in any way.
Casting Identify or any other spell that retains the same features of divination will reveal if it is currently attuned to someone, what spell it has been instructed to cast, what its triggering condition is, what material components are inside it and how much is left, and any and all details of the input it as received. Casting Dispel Magic upon the Arcane Recaster disables it until the caster it is attuned to performs the instruction process again.
It has an AC of 10, and 1 HP. Upon it dropping to 0 HP, it is considered broken, and cannot function again unless fixed by a magical expert over 1d12 days.
Notes: To cast a new spell through the Arcane Recaster, the caster must be attuned to it.
