While you wear this amulet, you are able to discern if an individual or artifact is actively under any magical transformations or manipulations. The effect is akin to detect magic but more nuanced and focused on a particular application of magical energies.
The small gemstone that serves as the indicator will glow brightly when within arm's length (approximately 3 feet, or one meter) of an artifact or individual that is under active magical influence. Magical weapons, armor, wondrous items, etc. will activate the amulet, as will persons under the influence of any charm, suggestion, magical disguise, or other magical effects that, when they are removed, will return the person or artifact back to its original state.
Permanent transformations will not trigger the amulet, except during the brief period of time during which the transformation takes place. Shaped water, stone, fires that started out magically but remain burning, etc., once the magical energy is complete and the materials are released, will not register at all.
