Wondrous Item, rare

This small leather pouch weighs about 1/2 lb., is held closed with a leather drawstring, and is embossed with an image of a snake bearing its fangs and breathing a plume of flames. The two leather cords acting as the pouch's drawstrings are decorated with glass beads of the colors red, green, blue, white, purple, and black.

Reaching one's outstretched hand into the pouch allows one of a variety of hot peppers to be withdrawn from it at will. An unlimited number of peppers can be withdrawn, but only one pepper can exist outside of the pouch at any given time. When a pepper is pulled from the pouch, any uneaten pepper that was previously pulled from the pouch fades out of existence.

If the individual reaching into the pouch has learned the spell Dragon's Breath, the pouch will provide the exact type of pepper the user desires, otherwise the user must roll a d6 and consult the table to determine which pepper will be pulled from the pouch. Any pepper that is withdrawn from the pouch acts as a suitable spell component for casting Dragon's Breath.

d6 Pepper Type & Effect
01

Red Torch Pepper - The pouch produces a thin, dried, red hot pepper about an inch long, topped with a green stem. The pepper feels warm to the touch and has an eye-watering scent.

The red pepper tastes incredibly spicy, and induces a warming sensation when eaten that lasts for 1d10 minutes. Consuming one also causes a puff of black smoke to erupt in a belch from the mouth of the one who ate it.

Eating an additional red hot pepper before the effects of a previous pepper have worn off inflicts 1d4 fire damage in addition to the previous effects.

02

Green Pucker Pepper - The pouch produces an ellipsoid, smooth, green pepper that comes wrapped in the leaves which extend from its thick, tan stem. When the leaves are peeled away the surface of the green pepper begins to react with the air, producing a faint sizzling sound.

The green pepper is almost overwhelmingly sour to the taste. Those who eat it must succeed on a DC 10 constitution saving throw or experiencing a numbing sensation of the tongue which makes speech difficult, lasting for 1d10 minutes. On a success, a pleasant tingling sensation is instead felt throughout the body for 1d10 minutes.

Eating an additional green pepper before the effects of a previous pepper have worn off inflicts 1d4 acid damage in addition to the previous effects.

03

Blue Exciting Pepper - The pouch produces a deep-blue pepper, shaped in a conical spiral extending from a short, sharp, teal stem. In dim light or darkness, the blue pepper appears to give off a faint glow.

The blue pepper tastes abundantly sweet and instills in the eater a sense of hyperactivity, much like that of a sugar-rush, which lasts for 1d10 minutes. When the hyperactivity wears off, the eater must succeed on a DC 10 constitution saving throw or suffer from a wave a lethargy that lasts for 1d4 minutes.

Eating an additional blue pepper before the effects of a previous pepper have worn off inflicts 1d4 lightning damage in addition to the previous effects.

04

White Frigid Pepper - The pouch produces an opaque, white, cubic pepper with a red, curly stem. The pepper feels cold to the touch.

The white pepper tastes reminiscent of vanilla, and its innards have the texture of shaved ice. Eating the white pepper induces a sensation of being chilled to the bone that lasts for 1d10 minutes. The eater must also succeed at a DC 10 constitution saving throw or suffer an intense sensation of brain freeze that lasts 1d4 minutes.

Eating an additional white pepper before the effects of a previous pepper have worn off inflicts 1d4 cold damage in addition to the previous effects.

05

Purple Pox Pepper - This pepper is unsightly, resembling an amalgamation of small purple spheres adhered to one another to create one lumpy mass, protruding from a conical, brittle, black stem. The surface of this pepper can be seen to visibly undulate every few seconds.

Biting into the purple pepper releases the juice within it, which pops outwards as if it was kept under slight pressure. The juice of the purple pepper tastes pleasant and savory at first, but leaves a corrosive aftertaste that is like that of burnt meat. One minute after having eaten the purple pepper, the eater must succeed on a DC 10 constitution saving throw or suffer from a strong urge to throw up the contents of their stomach. Otherwise, the eater experiences a surreal sense of calm that washes over them, lasting for 1d10 minutes.

Eating an additional purple pepper before the effects of a previous pepper have worn off inflicts 1d4 poison damage in addition to the previous effects.

06

Black Esoteric Pepper - The matte black surface of this eerie, perfectly spherical black pepper seems to absorb all light that touches it, and appears in stark contrast to the white stem with a single tear-drop shaped leaf extending from its top.

A DC 15 wisdom saving throw must be performed immediately upon eating the black pepper. On a success, the taste of the black pepper takes on that of the eater's favorite food, inducing a state of euphoria that lasts for 1d10 minutes, and granting the eater 1d6 temporary hit points.

On a failure, the eater suffers 1d10 psychic damage as the bland taste of the black pepper suddenly shifts to something the eater would find absolutely repulsive. Additionally, the eater is doomed to experience a terrible nightmare during his/her next long rest. The exact nature of the visions experienced during the nightmare are left to your DM's discretion.
