Unlike conventional splint mail, the metal “splints” are bound together with silk cords and leather, while the underside is exposed. This construction makes the armor light and flexible while still offering excellent protection. Only powerful warlords can afford its construction.

This armor is made of narrow vertical strips of metal riveted to a backing of leather that is worn over cloth padding. Flexible chain mail protects the joints.
