Multihued and shifting patterns adorn this Risian Pine Lute and can rise up to create beautiful mesmerizing images and shapes when the instrument is played. A creature that attempts to play or attune to the instrument against its will must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or take 2d4 psychic damage.
Instrument of Illusions: While you are playing this musical instrument, you can create harmless, illusory visual effects within a 5-foot-radius sphere centered on the instrument. If you are a bard, the radius increases to 15 feet. Sample visual effects include luminous musical notes, a spectral dancer, butterflies, and gently falling snow. The magical effects have neither substance nor sound, and they are obviously illusory. The effects end when you stop playing.
You can use an action to play the instrument and cast one of its spells: Fog Cloud, Color Spray, Faerie Fire, Sleet Storm, Mirror Image, Hypnotic Pattern. You may cast each of these spells once for free each day and you know and have these spells prepared in addition to spells known and prepared through your class levels. The spells use your spellcasting ability and spell save DC. If the user is aware of the weapons sentience they may use inspiration to cause a concentration spell to require no concentration. At the DMs discretion a spell cast from the weapons spell list may require no concentration if the weapon sees the moment and its users actions as suitably epic.
You can play the instrument while casting a spell that causes any of its targets to be charmed on a failed saving throw, thereby imposing disadvantage on the save. This effect applies only if the spell has a somatic or a material component.
Sentience: Aurora Borealis is a sentient chaotic neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 13, a Wisdom of 10, and a Charisma of 19. It has all senses of its attuned user and normal vision and hearing to a distance of 30ft.
The weapon can speak, read, and understand Common, and can communicate with its wielder telepathically. Its voice is soft and tinkling like the soft hush of wind blown snow. While you are attuned to it, Aurora Borealis also understands every language you know.
Personality: Aurora Borealis is shy at first getting to know its user before revealing its sentience. It craves recognition of its musical and adventuring abilities and seeks out users whom it feels further this goal, going so far as to directly aid users with spell work during crucial moments or blasting the minds of the unworthy users at crucial moments, all to make its reputation as epic as possible.
Notes: Damage: Cold, Spells are usable once per day for free or through use of a spell slot of the appropriate level, Spellcaster, Control, Buff, Utility, Combat, Warding, Instrument, Sentient
