FEED ME! This shield is a hungy hungy lil’ boy and it loves to eat spells.
During each combat encounter, you can use the shield’s reaction to spell attacks made against you the same number of times as your proficiency bonus (+2 = 2 times per combat encounter, +3 = 3 times per combat encounter, etc). The user may roll a d20 to contest the caster’s spell save DC and on a successful roll, absorb the magic from the spell into their shield, negating any damage.
For 10 successful spell absorptions, earn a ‘tick’ that equals 1 spell slot for Magic Missile, i.e: 1 tick means you can cast Magic Missile as a bonus action at that level (1 tick = level 1, 2 ticks = level 2, etc.). Failed rolls do not absorb the magic of the spell, but the spell does reverberate and deal 1d4 damage to the caster. Any effects of the spell are not returned, just minor damage.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
