Athenaeum's Tome allows the user to place the tome on a scroll, manuscript, book, map, or any written/drawn/depicted material to copy the material into the Tome. To copy the material, the user must be able to place the tome directly on the material to be copied. There is a cost of 1gp per item copied. To access the material, the user must touch the Tome and focus on the material desired. The Tome will access that material and display it until the Tome is closed. If the Tome is opened without a request made in the manner described, the Tome appears empty. A user may access a Table of Contents in the same manner used to access known material. Once the Table of Contents is accessed, a title selected by touch is brought up for perusal and disappears as usual when the Tome is closed.
If the material copied is a spell scroll, normal spell scroll rules apply, except that once the spell is cast the spell does not crumble to dust, the spell only fades for a 24 hour period of time, during which time the spell cannot be recalled from the Tome. A spell saved in the Tome cannot be destroyed or removed from the Tome. If any failure of use of the spell occurs, the spell fades for a 24 hour period of time, during which the spell cannot be recalled from the Tome. All copies of spells and spell scrolls automatically succeed when entered into the Tome as described above. All other applicable rules for spells and spellcasting apply.
