An Altar of Tentacles takes the form of a small cube, engraved with images of tentacles, that can fit in a Medium creature's palm. It radiates an aura of conjuration to a detect magic spell.
As an action it can be thrown down onto the ground, creating a grated steel platform (square or circular, user's choice)up to* 60 ft. on each side/ in radius. The altar is in the center of the platform, and is now 5 ft. x 5 ft. x 5 ft. in dimensions. The altar has 4 niches on it, just the right size for miniature sculptures. If said sculptures are inserted into the niches, the altar will begin targeting whatever creature the sculpture depicts (i.e. a sculpture of a water elemental would cause it to target water elementals, however a sculpture of a human named Bob would cause it to only target Bob). If a targeted creature makes contact with the platform, tentacles rise up through the grates. They deal 20 (4d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage to a target, and are difficult terrain for a target.
If the creature who had placed down the Altar of Tentacles wills it to disappear, the Altar will retract back into the small cube. The small cube and any figurines in the niches will teleport into the user's hand. This also occurs if said creature dies.
*If the area is smaller than 60 ft. per side/ in radius, the platform will only go out to the maximum possible length.
