Physical Description:
Arachnophobia is a cursed axe. Nobody caught wielding it realizes this until they actually meet a spider, of course. Until then, it seems like it could be a cool, intimidating, and exotically deadly weapon. The head of the axe is almost as much a sculpture as weapon; It has the appearance of a spider with it's eight legs fanned out in two bladed arches. The handle is sculpted to appear vaguely like webbing.
Magical Properties:
- This weapons base damage counts as magical in nature.
- While holding this greataxe, the wielder can cast Web, using it's one charge, once every long rest.
- Does +2 damage to creatures that could be considered insects (since there is currently no official "Insect" monster type, DM decides what is close enough to an insect and what isn't). Spiders of any kind do not receive this additional damage.
- CURSE: The wielder of the axe becomes cursed with a mental condition: arachnophobia. Once they attack with this weapon in combat, the wielder will be magically imprinted with the crippling fear of spiders and will have to roll a Wisdom saving throw (DC 10 + wielder's own Strength Modifier) every time they come within 10 ft. of a spider of any kind. If they fail the saving throw, they become frightened of any spiders nearby for three rounds (18 seconds). This curse can be ended a number of ways, such as a remove curse spell or dousing one's head in holy water, but touching the greataxe again will only recurse the victim.
Proficiency with a Greataxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
Notes: Damage: Slashing, Frightened, Damage, Utility, Combat, Cursed, Heavy, Two-Handed, Cleave
