A plain, if well-crafted round shield made of battle-worn oak, banded with iron and with a matching boss. This shield's simple form belies a rich history of use by countless mighty protectors since the Age of Heroes. Those with a strong cause and a sense of right and wrong feel an immediate connection with the shield, and know that they may use this shield to do great things in service to their cause or belief.
Awakened
You gain a bonus to your armor class proportional to the number of nearby allies. For every two allies within 10 feet of you, your AC increases by +1, up to a maximum of +3.
Additionally, you may use your action to rally, all allies within 30 feet of you. When you do, both you and the shield take on a glowing afterimage, resembling the shield's prior users, which follow in your wake as you move. While rallied, allies gain the following effects as long as they are within 10 feet of you:
- When they take damage, reduce that damage by an amount equal to half of your proficiency bonus, rounded up.
- When they make a saving throw (including death saving throws), add half of your proficiency bonus, rounded up, to the result of the roll.
- At the start of each of their turns, they gain temporary hitpoints equal to half of your proficiency bonus, rounded up.
This effect lasts for 1 minute, and once used, it may not be used until the user completes a long rest, during which they spend at least 30 minutes contemplating their ideals.
Finally, if you have the protection fighting style, when you use your reaction to impose disadvantage on an attack, you may grant additional protection. You may subtract up to three points from your armor class to increase the protected creature's armor class by that amount. Your's and the protected creature's AC return to normal at the beginning of your next turn.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
