Aggrandizer Crystal

Radiating with magical power and potential, Aggrandizer Crystals come in all colors, shapes, and sizes, ranging from pebble-like to the size of a baseball. Great mages are capable of harnessing their arcane prowess into crafting these gemstone vessels to allow those of lesser ability to cast at a heightened level.

Only one such crystal can be used on a spell at a time. When a spellcaster uses an Aggrandizer Crystal, the shard shatters and imbues the spell currently being cast; the spell is cast at one spell level higher than the current spellslot being used, even if the user is not capable of casting that level of spell. For an example, if a 3rd Level spell is desired to be cast at 4th Level, the user can use the crystal and expend a 3rd Level without needing to use a higher slot. Once the crystal has been used in this way, it shatters and becomes unusable.

Alternatively, the crystals can be used to increase the effectiveness of specific spells that involve rolling for specific effects; for example, a regular Aggrandizer Crystal will allow a single reroll of the Teleport spell's Familiarity chart or of the Prismatic Spray spell's d8 roll when determining ray colors. Using the crystal in this way also shatters it, making it unusable.
