This amulet is a thick, silver disc on a chain. Its front is glass, and behind the glass are coiling channels and clear gems set within. On the top of the disc is a small opening which leads inside. While wearing the amulet, once per day (resetting at dawn) you can use an action to pour a drop of blood into the amulet. As the blood moves through the channels and behind the amplifying gemstones, the amulet produces the following effect.
If the blood is fresh (less than one hour outside of the body): The effect is similar to a deep probing Detect Thoughts spell, giving you the creatures immediate thoughts as of the moment the blood left the body, insight into its reasoning (if any), its emotional state, and something that looms large in its mind.
If the blood is not fresh (more than one hour outside the body, or taken from a dead creature): You learn the surface thoughts of the creature as of the moment the blood left the body, or the moment the creature died.
