Aether Compass

The Aether Compass is a glass octahedron that contains a tiny golden sphere with four needles of varying size orbiting around it, their tips always pointing directly away from the sphere. The Compass is attached to a necklace and tends to tug on its chain whenever one of the needles veers sharply in one direction.
The first three needles are the same material as the central sphere and can detect powerful magic sources across any distance but also seem to neglect weaker sources. The length of the needle corresponds to the strength of the source being tracked. The longest needle has never deviated from some unknown source. The other two frequently recalibrate.
Ever since Danté Eomund repaired it, a fourth, glowing needle of energy has appeared that changes colour depending on where it is pointing.
