Aethervane

This astrolabe-like instrument is used to navigate the manifest zones of Eberron and the vast array of demiplanes within the depths of Khyber.

This artifact resembles a combination of an orrery and an astrolabe. Rings of metal spin around each other, studded with tiny Siberys dragonshards. A small, blue Khyber dragonshard is nestled in its center installed with makeshift conduits of copper and brass within an impressive gilded cage. When activated, the stone glows with a pulsing cerulean light that projects an image of a small map highlighting the locations and destinations of known portals.

While touching the Aethervane, you can use a bonus action to find the location of any portal (and its destination, if known) previously stored by the Aethervane; alternatively, you can use a bonus action to remove previously stored information about a portal. These features of the item do not require attunement.

Detect Portal. While attuned to and touching this item, you gain the ability to magically sense the presence of a planar portal. As an action, you detect the distance and direction to the closest planar portal within 1 mile of you. Once detected, you can use a bonus action to store the location of the portal (and its destination, if known) within the Aethervane; there is no known limit to the number of portals the Aethervane can store. Once you use these features, you can't use them again until you finish a short or long rest.

The item has AC 24, 10 hit points, and resistance to all damage.
