This crossbow holds a 100-foot length of chain in a pocket dimension which magically attaches itself to any bolts placed in its catch. You can spend a bonus action to detach the bolt from the chain if the bolt is still in the catch. If the bolt goes beyond 100 feet away from the crossbow, the chain detaches. If the chain or crossbow is not being held or restraining on either end of it, at the end of your turn it retracts all remaining chain into the crossbow.
The chain of this crossbow makes a line between the crossbow and its target. A 5-foot segment of the chain can be attacked or broken. It has an AC of 14 and 10 hit points, and it has immunity to poison and psychic damage. A 5-foot segment of chain can also be broken with a DC 20 Strength check. Chain cut or broken off from the crossbow is no longer magical or attached to the crossbow. Any amount of chain cut off from the crossbow is permanently cut off, reducing the amount of chain it can shoot outwards.
If you hit a creature or object with an attack using this crossbow and the creature or object is within 100 feet of it, that creature or object is restrained. At the beginning of your turn, if there is a creature or object restrained with the crossbow, you and the creature must make a contested Strength check. The restrained creature or object has disadvantage and you automatically fail this check if the creature or object is at least two sizes larger than you. If you succeed on this check, the creature is pulled a number of feet closer to you equal to 5 times the difference between the checks. A creature can spend its action to escape the restrains, succeeding on a DC 14 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check. You can also end the restrained condition using your bonus action, releasing the chain from the creature or object.
You can choose to target a high wall or ceiling with this crossbow. If you hit, you are propelled towards the wall or ceiling at a speed of 50 feet at the end of your turn. If you end your turn in midair this way, you must succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or lose hold of the crossbow. You begin falling you lose hold of the crossbow, but stay in the air if you keep hold of it.
Proficiency with a Light Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
