A lantern archon from the Upper Planes is housed in this bullseye lantern, casting bright light in a 60-foot cone and dim light for an additional 60 feet. You choose the direction the cone is facing at the start of each of your turns. Within the area of bright light, magical darkness is illuminated, and invisible creatures and objects are visible as glowing outlines.
While wielding the lantern, you can use a bonus action to command the archon within to make the following attack:
Ranged Spell Attack: +4 to hit, range 60 ft., one target. Hit: 1d4 radiant damage, and if the target relies on sight, it has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the start of your next turn.
Sentience. The lantern archon is a Tiny Celestial (Lawful Good) with Intelligence 7 (-2), Wisdom 13 (+1), and Charisma 15 (+2). It has normal hearing and vision, can read Celestial, and can speak with any creature that has a language. It has a +0 modifier to Religion checks.
Personality. A lantern archon is the ascended spirit of a faithful mortal, retaining its personality but none of its memories from life. This archon, named Dawn, is naïve and optimistic, ready to offer her limited help in any way she can.
Dawn is hesitant to face demons and undead and needs some coaxing to confront her fear of these creatures. Despite this, she is determined to show courage enough to ascend to the next stage of the celestial hierarchy. Helping her gain confidence could yield great boons in the long term.
