Weapon (longbow), legendary (requires attunement by a creature)

This bow is carved from ebony with inlays of red heart wood in a flowing pattern within the grip that turn white along its limbs. The recurve and tip are folded in white wings that extend when the bow is fully notched. The bow string is a silver strand of unbreakable hair. When attuned to the bow, red tears slowly seeps out of the heartwood when the attuned creature feels deep sorrow. The trail is only visible to the attuned creature and can only be tracked by the attuned creature which lasts for 1d4 days.

This longbow is a Celestial slaying longbow +3 which adds 2d8 points of damage to the weapons damage die when hitting a Celestial. This longbow also ignores the Heavy property.

Twice per short rest, the wielder of Anguish as apart of an attack can make a "Heart Shot". A black arrow weeping red tears is formed when the bow is drawn without an arrow. If the attack hits it deals an extra 6d8 psychic damage. The target then must make a Wisdom saving throw DC 19 or suffer the emotional impact of heartbreaking despair and sorrow for 1d4 rounds, giving the creature disadvantage on all attacks, saving throws, and ability checks for the duration. This sorrow comes in many forms, usually the despair it has inflicted on others, however the despair can come the target's own despair or the attuned of Anguish. Constructs and Undead are immune to this condition.

Anguish also has the following properties.

  • Sentinel.  This item glows from the white inlays faintly when Celestials are within 120 feet of it.
  • Unbreakable. The item can’t be broken. Anguish can only be destroyed by being within the forest of the Dawnfather from which it was created and the Dawnfather returning the bow to its original angelic form.
