This featureless bronze amulet appears worthless at first glance. Once attuned to a paladin, the amulet's surface is etched with runes as the paladin grows in power.
Basic Functions of the Amulet
The amulet functions as a divine focus that grants a +1 bonus to radiant damage the paladin deals. Additional properties are unlocked by attuning to a paladin of higher level.
- At 5th level, the paladin may use an action to cast Bless as a 3rd level spell from the amulet once per day. The amulet regains this property at dawn.
- At 10th level, the paladin gains resistance to necrotic damage.
- At 15th level, the paladin may increase one ability score by 1, to a maximum of 20. Once used in this way, the amulet cannot confer this blessing to the same individual again.
Test of Worthiness : If you fail to perform at least one act of kindness or generosity within the span of 10 days, or if you willingly perform an evil act, you lose all the benefits granted by the amulet until you atone for your actions.
Epic Quest
To unlock the full magic of the amulet, the paladin should complete an epic quest. Some abilities of the amulet may be unlocked by progressing towards the quest objective, or they may all unlock once the quest is complete. The DM should work with the player to determine the quest objective and when the amulet's properties are unlocked. The paladin chooses which additional property is unlocked. Not all properties may become unlocked over the course of a single paladin's ownership of the amulet.
- Angelic Avenger: You are fluent in Celestial.
- Halo: You have a protective halo that sheds bright light in a 10 ft. radius and dim light in a further 10 ft. You can dismiss or manifest the halo as a bonus action. While present, the halo gives you advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with good creatures and Charisma (Intimidation) checks made to interact with evil creatures. In addition, fiends and undead within the halo’s bright light make attack rolls against you with disadvantage.
- Indomitable: You never suffer from exhaustion.
- Light's Redemption: Once per turn, when you deal radiant damage, you may restore 2d6 hit points to yourself or an ally within 5 feet. (Req. Level 12)
- Truth Seeker: You can cast True Seeing on yourself 1/day. This property resets at dawn. (Req. Level 8)
