Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a Tempest cleric)

This featureless silver amulet appears worthless at first glance. Once attuned to a cleric, the amulet's surface is etched with runes as the cleric grows in power.

Basic Functions of the Amulet

The amulet functions as a divine focus that grants a +1 bonus to thunder damage the cleric deals. Additional properties are unlocked by attuning to a cleric of higher level.

  • At 5th level, the cleric may use an action to cast Water Walk from the amulet once per day. The amulet regains this property at dawn.
  • At 10th level, the cleric gains one additional use of their Wrath of the Storm ability per long rest.
  • At 15th level, the cleric may increase one ability score by 1, to a maximum of 20. Once used in this way, the amulet cannot confer this blessing to the same individual again.

Test of Chaos: If you fail to deal thunder damage within the span of 10 days, you lose all the benefits granted by the amulet until you deal thunder damage.

Epic Quest

To unlock the full magic of the amulet, the cleric should complete an epic quest. Some abilities of the amulet may be unlocked by progressing towards the quest objective, or they may all unlock once the quest is complete. The DM should work with the player to determine the quest objective and when the amulet's properties are unlocked. The cleric chooses which additional property is unlocked. Not all properties may become unlocked over the course of a single cleric's ownership of the amulet.

  • Adrenaline Seeker: You can't be frightened.
  • Hardy: You suffer no harm from extreme temperatures as low as -20 Fahrenheit or as warm as 120 Fahrenheit, and wind (including magical wind) can't influence your movement.
  • Short Circuit: When you deal thunder damage to a creature, it can't take reactions and its movement speed is halved until the end of its next turn. (Req. Level 8)
  • Stormborn: You gain resistance to lightning and thunder damage. This protection changes to immunity once you reach level 12.
  • Wings of the Wind: You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed. (Req. Level 12)
