Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a monk)

This featureless wooden amulet appears worthless at first glance. Once attuned to a monk, the amulet's surface is etched with runes as the monk grows in power.

Basic Functions of the Amulet

The amulet grants its wearer damage resistance of 1 against slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage. Additional properties are unlocked by attuning to a monk of higher level.

  • At 5th level, the monk may use an action to cast Create Food and Water from the amulet once per day. The amulet regains this property at dawn. Additionally, you may cast Purify Food and Drink an unlimited number of times per day.
  • At 10th level, the monk gains resistance to fire damage.
  • At 15th level, the monk may increase one ability score by 1, to a maximum of 20. Once used in this way, the amulet cannot confer this blessing to the same individual again.

Test of Generosity: If you don't provide food for others at least once during a span of 10 days, the amulet ceases to function until you provide food for others.

Epic Quest

To unlock the full magic of the amulet, the monk should complete an epic quest. Some abilities of the amulet may be unlocked by progressing towards the quest objective, or they may all unlock once the quest is complete. The DM should work with the player to determine the quest objective and when the amulet's properties are unlocked. The monk chooses which additional property is unlocked. Not all properties may become unlocked over the course of a single monk's ownership of the amulet.

  • Cooking School: You are proficient with food and Cook's Utensils. You add double your proficiency bonus to weapon attacks made with these items.
  • Food Critic: Once per turn, when you hit a target with a cooking utensil or food, you may spend a Ki. If you do, the target expends one of their highest level spell slots. The slot is regained on the target's next long rest. (Req. Level 12)
  • Full Belly: You regain 15 hit points at the end of each hour you are attuned to the amulet. (Req. Level 8)
  • Hell's Kitchen: Once per turn, when you hit with an unarmed strike or a cooking utensil, you may add 1d6 fire damage.
  • Sous Chef: While you are wielding food or a cooking utensil, you gain a +1 bonus to your AC.
