This featureless steel amulet appears worthless at first glance. Once attuned to a fighter, the amulet's surface is etched with runes as the fighter grows in power.
Basic Functions of the Amulet
The amulet functions as an arcane focus that grants a +2 bonus to acid damage the fighter deals. Additional properties are unlocked by attuning to a fighter of higher level.
- At 5th level, the fighter may use a reaction to cast Absorb Elements (3rd level) once per day. This property resets at dawn.
- At 10th level, the fighter gains resistance to poison damage.
- At 15th level, the fighter may increase one ability score by 1, to a maximum of 20. Once used in this way, the amulet cannot confer this blessing to the same individual again.
Test of the Wyrm: If you fail to use a breath weapon within the span of 10 days, you lose all the benefits granted by the amulet until you use a breath weapon.
Epic Quest
To unlock the full magic of the amulet, the fighter should complete an epic quest. Some abilities of the amulet may be unlocked by progressing towards the quest objective, or they may all unlock once the quest is complete. The DM should work with the player to determine the quest objective and when the amulet's properties are unlocked. The fighter chooses which additional property is unlocked. Not all properties may become unlocked over the course of a single fighter's ownership of the amulet.
- Improved Breath: If you have a breath weapon that requires rest to recharge, it gains a recharge of 6. Otherwise you gain the breath weapon of a black dragonborn of your level. (Req. Level 8)
- Improved Darkvision: You gain darkvision with a radius of 60 feet, or an additional 60 feet of darkvision if you already have it.
- Legendary Resistance: Once per day if you fail a saving throw, you can choose to succeed instead. This property resets at dawn. (Req. Level 12)
- Scalefriend: You have advantage on any Charisma check you make against a dragon or Dragonborn.
- Waterborn: You can breathe underwater and you gain a swim speed of 60 feet.
