Arcane Catapult

The Arcane Catapult is a device created to meet the needs of an Artificer in the service of the military. These military arcanists created the device in order to overcome the  range limitations of their Baubles. Combining this device with the ability to allow a non artificer to cast a bauble spell granted these military units immense power and success. The Arcane Catapult consists of a modified crossbow stock affixed with a metal pipe and a rotating cylinder. The cylinder contains six shots worth of baubles. These baubles can be enchanted or can function in a similar way to a normal bullet, although they are about 2 inches in diameter. Once assembled the device is infused with a modified version of the Catapult spell. While this item is generally considered to be a firearm it does not require gunpowder to launch it's projectiles and it is capable of being used underwater. Unenchanted Baubles launched from this weapon are not considered magical and have no bonuses to attack or damage rolls, the weapon could be upgraded to include this capability.

It’s up to you to decide whether a character has proficiency with a firearm. Characters in most D&D worlds wouldn’t have such proficiency. During their downtime, characters can use the training rules in the Player’s Handbook to acquire proficiency, assuming that they have enough ammunition to keep the weapons working while mastering their use.
