Crafted from a smaller more streamlined version of an Immovable Rod and affixed with specially treated silk from a phase spider, the Steadfast Grapnel Arrow is a masterpiece of artifice. This blunted arrow can be fired from a light or heavy crossbow or a short or long bow, though the range of the arrow is limited to 80/160. When the arrow strikes a hard enough surface, a button in the tip is pressed and the magic of it is activated, and it becomes magically fixed in place and remains there until you or another creature uses an action to press a releasing button near its fletching. The arrow doesn't move, even if it is defying gravity and can hold up to 800 pounds of weight, more weight causes the arrow to deactivate and fall. A creature can use an action to make a DC 15 Strength check, moving the fixed arrow up to 10 feet on a success.
Once the Steadfast Grapnel Arrow activates, a thick filament of phase spider silk materializes out of the Ethereal Plane with one end affixed to the rear end of the arrow. As long as the creature that fired the arrow is within 80 feet of it when it activates, the other end of the filament materializes in their hand. If the creature is further than 80 feet from the arrow, the 80 foot length of spider silk simply materializes dangling from the activated arrow. There is a slight tackiness to the filament that grants advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to climb it. When the arrow is deactivated the spider silk vanishes back into the ethereal plane.
