If you spend 48 hours over a period of 6 days or fewer studying the book's contents and practicing you gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls when you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons. The tome then loses its magic and is destroyed.
Additionally if you have the Duelling fighting style or a feat like defensive duellist that enhances single handed or finesse weapons, when you are fighting a creature and there are no other creatures within 10 feet of either of you, you gain a +2 bonus on melee weapon attacks against that creature.
