While holding this shield, you have a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC.
Description: A tall kite shield glimmers in crimson red - the silver visage of a rearing lion adoring its face. Held on by brassen studs is a thick silver lining.
Artorae's Cries: At night, the user will feel the fear that hid behind the strength and must make a wisdom saving throw to not be kept awake by the tearful cries of Artorae deathly afraid of his next fight to come. On a fail, the user gains 1 point of exhaustion.
Artorae's Curse: When attuning to this shield, the user must make a wisdom saving throw to not become cursed by the item. On a fail the user will feel a tightening around their arm where the shield's straps are. Upon investigation, the user will find that the leather straps have bound to their arm and there is no longer a means of adjusting or removing the straps. The straps are appropriately tightened and are attached to the user's arm until the curse is removed. The echoing sounds of moaning and crying quietly heard from the shadows of the room surrounding the cursed user wherever they go.
Abilities: Once per day, the shield can activate the nature of the brand placed upon it, causing one of the following to happen:
- The shield grows to 2x its size for 3 rounds, giving your AC bonus (+3) to any creature within 5 ft of you.
or
- 2 ethereal copies of Artorae's Shield appear in the empty hands of two creatures of your choice. This grants the holders of the ethereal shield a +2 to AC for 3 rounds.
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
