A sliver of magic from an age long past, an ahngreal can be used to bolster the capabilities of a spellcaster. A number of times per day equal to the spellcaster's spellcasting ability modifier, a caster can use the ahngreal to boost the level of a casted spell. (i.e. if the caster boosts a 2nd level spell with the ahngreal, it acts as if it was cast as a 3rd level spell while only using a 2nd level spell slot.)
If the ahngreal is used to boost a spell beyond a caster's capabilities (i.e. casting a 9th level spell as if it was a 10th level or a 5th level wizard using fireball as a 4th level through the ahngreal), the caster must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 10 + boosted spell level) or suffer levels of exhaustion equal to the level the spell would have boosted to halved, rounding down. (i.e. 5th level wizard casts fireball boosted through the ahngreal. Con save DC 14. Failure would result in 2 levels of exhaustion.)
