Wondrous Item, artifact

This ring is comprised of a simple platinum band encircled with a dozen or so semi-spherical cavities, of which some or all may be empty and otherwise holding a minuscule transparent bead. The ring, even well maintained, is unmistakably a relic of a distant time and emanates a strong divination aura. Donning the ring requires the wearer to succeed on a DC18 Wisdom throw to unlock its potential; failure results in 1d12 psychic damage and the ring is cognitively blocked from that wearer's use for 1d10+1 days.

On a successful roll, the wearer understands the ring and its purpose as a means to record and store information for subsequent reflection. The wearer may extract any of the beads inlaid to the band; doing so results in the bead expanding to the size of a glowing orb, taking on a soft internal light and vaguely harmonious choral resonance. The wearer can send forth any number of the beads studding the ring to record everything around it in a 20-foot radius as long as it stays within one mile of the wear and on the same plane. They perceive their surroundings as though affected by a true seeing spell. They record visual, auditory, olfactory, and thermal information in their sphere of perception. The wearer may shrink the bead to its original size prior to activation. Activation occurs telepathically and requires a DC10 Arcana roll from the wearer.

A bead can record up to 20 hours of information about their surroundings. Upon collection, the ring's wearer may activate the bead to review the collected information following a DC15 Intelligence saving roll (the wearer who reviews a bead's content may be different from the one who activated and placed the bead); failure results in 1d12 psychic damage. On a successful, complete review of the stored information the bead loses its magical properties.
