Weapon (greataxe), very rare

The ancient bones that make up this weapon are from an unknown but large vertebrate and consist of two scapulae and a section of spinal column that is held together by an unseen force.  When found, the weapon is in its disassembled state.  Upon close examination, tiny runes can be seen etched into each piece of the spinal column and on the rounded ridges of the scapulae.  The “blade” edge of the scapulae are unnaturally sharp to the touch and the bones are much denser than regular bone.

The runes carved into the bone act like magical magnets, allowing the bones to be assembled and disassembled.  The Axe of Bone is reconfigurable into two throwing axes, a one-handed battle axe, or a great axe, and can also be disassembled into its component parts.   Other configurations may be possible, at the discretion of the DM.   Regardless of the configuration, the axe has a +1 to hit and damage.  Each hit also deals an additional 1d4 necromantic damage.

The axe is sentient and can communicate verbally in Common plus 1 additional language.  It has no senses other than touch and hearing.  Its personality is up to to the DM to determine.

Proficiency with a Greataxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.

Notes: Bonus: Melee Weapon Attacks, Melee Weapon Attack: Necrotic, Heavy, Two-Handed, Cleave
